Commentaries
‘We are convinced that an era or an event never comes to an abrupt end at a specific point, as, for example, a physical phenomenon might. Rather, like an ancient tree, they send their roots deep into the unknown depths, whilst their seeds spread in different directions and may give rise to new, lush vegetation somewhere. Such, in fact, is our film, which cannot be a chronicle or a replica, but rather a fantasy, a dream turned inside out. We endeavoured to adhere to the period details and elements of everyday life of that time, whilst at the same time allowing ourselves a free interpretation of events and the expression of our own attitude towards what is happening on screen.”
