Plot synopsis
The director films successively the New York subway, the Paris subway and the Moscow subway, thus putting them into perspective. Three portraits, three subways, three rhythms, three different atmospheres are presented.
Almost always accompanied by music, the images show the subways from the inside as well as the outside: the platforms, the corridors, the escalators and of course the people... Poetry of the images, poetry of the text (in Russian with French subtitles) which punctuates the film three times.
Each of the three parts is introduced by a similar shot: the overhead subway passing with the city behind.
The film presents very beautiful images of Paris seen from the overhead subway, as well as the overhead subway passing in the distance, at night, with the Eiffel Tower behind... Among the Parisian subway stations that appear in the film: Louvre-Rivoli, Concorde, Bastille and Cluny la Sorbonne.
