The plot is based on episodes from the life of the great Ukrainian poet T.G.Shevchenko. Thanks to the participation of the outstanding Ukrainian actor Ambrosiy Buchma, who managed to create the image of the brilliant kobzar, the film was shown for a long time on the screens of the Ukrainian SSR and other Soviet republics and was successfully shown in Western Ukraine, in numerous Ukrainian colonies in Europe and America, where it was shown in a shortened version under the title "Tarasova zhizn" ("Little Taras").
