Prosecutor Olsen's lover, the chanson singer Betsy, leaves him for a new passion. But he, appearing as the prosecutor in court, remains deaf to the dictates of emotion, a ruthless servant of the harsh law. After some time, Betsy, in a fit of jealousy, kills her new lover; Olsen, who retains his feelings, nevertheless becomes her prosecutor. He secures Betsy's conviction, but comes to the realization that he lived unjustly, allowing himself to judge, becoming a servant of Themis. The exit is in the classic tradition of the great silent film: Olsen commits suicide.
