Plot synopsis
The action takes place in a village in the Karakum desert. The only tree is the one planted by Jamal and her husband Nazar. War breaks out and Nazar has to leave for the front. Jamal is left alone to take care of the sheep. The happiness she foresees when Nazar returns sustains her. But when Nazar returns, the long-awaited happiness does not come true. Jamal is slandered by a neighbor whom Nazar wants to punish. They fight and Jamal wants to help her husband in this battle but she will succumb to the blows of the slanderer.
