Parler d’amour,
ce n’est pas mon talent.
Pardonne-moi,
si je dis quelque chose de travers.

The Song of Vanya the Stove Builder

I am a simple man,
and I’ll say it openly,
such beauty as yours
I have never seen in my life.

And now I cannot live
a single day without you,
oh, I had to fall in love
with the tsar’s daughter.

To speak of love
is not my skill.
Forgive me
if I say something wrong.

I am the kind of man
who dislikes idle talk,
if you ever need something, don’t worry, I will help.

Just give me a wink,
and I’ll rush to your side,
ah, I’ve fallen head over heels
for the tsar’s daughter.

To speak of love
is not my skill.
Forgive me
if I say something wrong.

Tchastouchki Baba Yaga / Chastushki Baba Yaga

Tchastouchki de Baba Yaga / Baba Yaga Chastushki
Musique : Maksim Dounaevski, paroles Youri Entine
Music: Maksim Dunaevski, lyrics Yuri Entin

Tchastouchki de Baba-Yaga

Déploie ton soufflet, accordéon,
Allez, joue, joue de plus belle !
Chante tes tchastouchki, Baba-Yaga,

Chante tes tchastouchki, Baba-Yaga,
Chante, et ne bavarde pas
.

The Baba Yaga Chastushki

Stretch your bellows, accordion,
Come on, play, play away!
Sing your chastushki, Baba Yaga,
Sing, don’t stand there talking.

I was feeling rather merry
And went flying on my broom.
Though I myself don’t believe
In all those superstitions.

I was walking through the forest,
When the devil started following me.
I thought he was a man —
What the devil was that!

I turned around and headed home,
And again the devil followed me.
I spat upon his bald head
And sent him off to the Leshy.

The most troublesome of people
Is that wicked storyteller.
What an accomplished liar!
Pity he’s not good to eat.

Stretch your bellows, accordion,
Come on, play, play away!
Sing your chastushki, Baba Yaga,
Sing, don’t stand there talking.
