The film is dedicated to Georgy Frantsevich Millar (born de Milly), a unique actor in Soviet cinema who played ‘all manner of devils, water spirits and kikimoras’, the unforgettable Baba Yaga and the pan-German Koschei in Alexander Row’s films, as well as numerous other roles and cameos.
Based on documents from the archives of the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art (RGALI), the Museum of Cinema, the ‘Mosfilm’ film studio, the M. Gorky Film Studio, the State Film Fund, the Russian State Film, Photo and Sound Archive, and the Gelendzhik Museum of History and Local Lore, the film becomes a record of Millar himself – a realm of myth where the actor’s biography and the history of Soviet cinema merge into a collage about memory and man’s place in history.
