Chudo-Yudo is the faithful servant of the forest enchantress. He does not know who he is or where he comes from, but he can transform himself into any living creature at will. His new task is to protect the headstrong young sorceress Otrada — daughter of the mighty magicians Chernogor and Bolotnitsa — from any trouble on her perilous journey into the world of ordinary people. Chudo-Yudo soon realises that, for Otrada’s sake, he is prepared to do anything, even without his mistress’s orders.
