Construction of the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Station is beginning. The home of the pilot Ostap Kovbany, who spent his whole life guiding ships through the rapids of the lower Dnieper, is due to be demolished. His father is the most distraught — the familiar way of life of their large family is coming to an end. But the children, who have become the first builders of the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Station, do not share the old pilot’s concerns.
