Plot synopsis

Stepan, a young folklorist, journeys through remote Udmurt villages in search of ritual songs that survive only in the memories of elderly women. He follows the traces of melodies once documented in these landscapes but gradually lost as the voices that carried them fell silent. Through intimate conversations, shared meals, and communal singing, a world slowly reveals itself—one in which songs accompany every passage of human life, from birth and marriage to death, binding the living to their ancestors. Yet the oldest melodies remain beyond reach, surviving only as echoes in the memories of those who can no longer sing them.
