About the crimes committed by the German Nazis at the Auschwitz extermination camp during World War II.
From 1942 onwards, the camp became the largest center for the extermination of European Jews. The majority of Jews deported to Auschwitz perished in the gas chambers immediately upon arrival, without being registered or assigned camp identification numbers. This makes it very difficult to determine the exact death toll; historians generally agree on a figure of approximately 1.5 million people.
One of the first to film the prisoners of Auschwitz—liberated by troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front—was CSDF cameraman Alexander Yefimovich Vorontsov. The footage shot by A.E. Vorontsov and other CSDF frontline cameramen served as key evidence in the prosecution of Nazi war criminals at the Nuremberg Trials.
