The documentary film *The Master* is dedicated to one of the most prominent figures in the history of Russian cinema – the brilliant film scholar, Chairman of the Russian State Film Committee, professor at VGIK, and long-standing president of the ‘Window to Europe’ film festival – Armen Nikolayevich Medvedev.
The film centres on the 1990s: a turning point for the country and a pivotal period in Armen Medvedev’s career. Separate sections of the film are devoted to VGIK and the Vyborg Film Festival as the protagonist’s favourite creative projects. The film is built around the recollections of colleagues, friends and students, who speak with sincere warmth and gratitude about the role the master played in their lives and in the life of our cinema.
