Sixteen-year-old Nadia runs away into the forest after a row with her deaf mother. In a fit of rage, she smashes trees, awakening the spirit of the forest – the Apple Tree. The Apple Tree takes Nadia to Iznanka – a world where people who have been unable to cope with their pain are transformed into soulless snags. The Apple Tree takes the girl’s heart away. To get it back and avoid turning to stone forever, Nadia will have to face despair, meet a weeping snag and make a choice: to keep fighting or to accept her fate. The film is a metaphorical parable about how hatred destroys the soul, whilst forgiveness and acceptance bring one back to life.
