November 1920. White Guard officer Sergei Neratov arrives in Constantinople from Crimea with the remnants of Wrangel's defeated army and civilian refugees. Alone and broken, having lost absolutely everything in the Revolution and the Civil War—his army was routed, his wife and children were killed—Neratov becomes the leader of the Russian emigration.
