Plot synopsis

Of course, to classify Akhmatova now as a dissident and fighter against the regime is a strained and erroneous matter. Anna Andreyevna was "only" a poet, an artist not of this world, and therefore, a person from the very beginning, elevated to other spheres (how can one not recall Akhmatova's famous stature, which delighted many, including Brodsky).
Yes, she, like thousands of her contemporaries, stood in lines under the walls of the St. Petersburg Kresty to find out whether her son was still alive or not.
Yes, she, like all the residents of the city on the Neva, starved and begged in an overcrowded communal apartment under cheerful marches and reports to the Kremlin that "life has become better, life has become more fun."
Finally, she, like any artist who has not sold out to the authorities "with all her guts", was forced to listen to wild accusations in their idiocy, humiliating demands, feeble-minded threats and recommendations from semi-literate literary bosses.
All this was in her life. All this was in the life of the country in which she lived and which she glorified.
