The action takes place in Belarus under German occupation. The main character is a Soviet woman, Anna Korzoun (Nina Urgant), a pharmacy manager who supports the partisans. Without fear of death, she helps them by regularly providing them with medicine and information. Every day, she risks her life and that of her two sons with whom she lives alone. The people who remained in the occupied territory differ in their attitude: some want to fight and strike the enemy; others betray and surrender to the police, hoping to gain some advantage or because they are opposed to the Soviet power; and the last ones simply seek to hide in order to protect themselves from both the Germans and the partisans. When her action becomes too dangerous, Anna Korzoun flees into the forest with her sons to join the partisans.
