The film begins with footage of the Victory Day Parade in Hanoi on January 1, 1955. Further, it tells about the history and traditions of the Vietnamese people, demonstrates numerous documentary and reconstructed footage of various events of the First Indochina War, including: a meeting with the former commander of the Dien Bien Phu garrison, the captive General de Kastri, the liberation of the Vietnamese provinces from the French, the transfer of the city of Hanoi from the French to the Vietnamese partisans.
