Ion Degen was a legendary fighter, tanker who during the Second World War killed several hundred Nazis and destroyed dozens of enemy tanks and hundreds of cannons and weapons. A renowned doctor, he is the author of poems, one of which, well known, which he wrote on the forehead at the age of 19: “My comrade, no longer call your friends in the anguish of death…” He almost became killed four times and miraculously escaped the great famine in Ukraine where he failed to be cannibalized. Jewish, he emigrated to Israel after the war. He does not deny anything of this terrible past which he always assumed without mood: it was his duty as a soldier. Mikhail Degtyar has collected the incredible memories of this man who lives today in a loving and proud family.
