Plot synopsis
The film is based on the real life story of a 20-year-old youngster. The main character moves from Russia to Germany together with his parents, Russian-born Germans. In the maze of life in Berlin he tries to find his own identity and his place in this new reality. A pupil of the German school, an unskilled worker, a seller at a Russian fishmonger’s, an extra at the German Opera, a petty criminal. That is the meandering path that his life takes. The multifaceted Russian Berlin, the tragicomic existence of emigrants become the background for his life. He meets many different people, finds his love, goes on the racket with friends, who are resettlers just like him, works, paints, makes plans for the future… and happens to become an accomplice in a murder. Thus for him the expanses of Russia narrowed to the dimensions of a German prison cell.
