[…] To me, Polustanok (The Halt) is a metaphore for what people in Russia are living today. Russia would appear to be in a state of advanced lethargy. Ten years ago, I felt the way most people my age did, filled with hope. In the meantime we were fed illusions, especially about the time that would be needed for all the changes we were expecting. I now believe that we in Russia do not have the patience needed for changes that take a long time.
Everything, now or never...
The current dilema simply leaves people stuck in a waiting room. I have observed this "falling out of time" phenomenon in the people around me everywhere and at all times of the day or night. In Moscow it must exist the dynamics ; all you need to do is look into people’s eyes to see it.
Even if people are constantly talking about change, I still have the terrible impression that with the exception of what we see on the outside, such as how appartments are decorated or how people are dressing, nothing has really changed here ; nothing that is part of our daily lives. How humans relate to one another is something that, unfortunateny, has remained the same…
