Plot synopsis
The film is focused on the life and activities of a Russian surgeon and scientist Nikolai Pirogov.
Episodes of his struggle with cholera epidemics and his new approach to medical practice reveal Pirogov’s strong personality. We watch Pirogov making the first in the world surgical operation using ether as anaesthetic and selflessly working as a surgeon during defense of Sevastopol in 1854 — 1855. The authors of the film were honored the Stalin’s Prize of the USSR.
