Plot synopsis
The film is a study of the circumstances and unfolding of the drama that unfolded in the second half of the 1930s around the project to create a "Soviet Hollywood" - a center of the film industry that was to resemble the American "dream factory".
In 1935, Boris Shumyatsky, head of the Soviet film industry, set out on a trip to Europe and the United States with Stalin's approval. He then carefully studied the way of working of the biggest film studios and met the stars of the time.
When the delegation returned to the USSR, frantic work began, with the design of the architectural project of the largest city of cinema, destined to materialize in Crimea.
However, late on the night of January 17, 1938, Shumyatsky was arrested and sentenced to firing squad. His project was deemed “anti-Soviet”.
What could have happened? Why did Stalin so abruptly change his attitude towards Shumyatsky and his project?
This story is imbued with a dramatic tension worthy of a Hollywood film.
