Plot synopsis
On the edge of a path, a ritual is quickly organised. A few pieces of wood constitute a small pyre where sweets, bread and other food are left. In a lost corner of the steppe, the members of Belekmaa’s family have come together to honour her father who has just died. The spirit of the dead will be freed by feeding it with offerings. The wind is rising. Suddenly and violently. And a hailstorm assails the small group. It is difficult not to see it as the sign from the spirits… Belekmaa is a young woman in a nomad family from Tuva, in southern Siberia. After the death of her father, she settles in the family encampment, shaken by the discovery of responsibilities as well as the disappearance of the traditions that were protected by her father. Somewhere between an ethnographical film and an initiation story, Camp on the Wind’s Road is situated in the tradition of Russian documentary filmmaking, where strong personalities are always in the grasp of higher natural or spiritual elements, triggering dramatic accounts with an anti-spectacular approach.
