The feel-good New Year’s Eve comedy sequel to Six Degrees of Celebration (Elki, 2010) has already surpassed the original at the box office. An almanac film directed by six prominent directors and headed by Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch, Day Watch, Wanted) features some of Russia’s most celebrated actors in a series of romantic vignettes. For the past forty years, Grigori, a pilot, has been waiting without success for his beloved in Red Square on New Year’s Eve. Finally realising that she will never come he decides to work on New Year’s Eve and fly out of Moscow. Meanwhile, his lover, Yulia receives the long lost letter from Grigori telling her to meet him in Red Square for the New Year’s celebration. She flies out from Kazakhstan to Moscow. Will they finally meet? This romantic comedy is peppered with surprises and heartfelt holiday cheer celebrating the multinational tapestry of Russia.
