In a remote corner of Russia, in the village of Bolshaya Kursha, live two completely different men: the distinguished scholar Astrein and the cynical nurse Smirnov. Life has brought together these two different beings who nevertheless spend the long winter evenings together rather pleasantly. And yet, as the days go by, the monotony ends up generating quarrels while real changes in their lives seem unrealizable. The New Year celebrations give new strength for a while to wait for spring. But this does not last long and our heroes take refuge again in listening to the radio.
