A philosophical romantic drama which is in certain ways related to the novel by Yu.K.Olesha «Envy». The plot centers around the love triangle, which resulted from the sudden passion of a young komsomol sportsman for an older woman of «balzacian age», who was the wife of a prominent Soviet military official… The decadent and most unorthodox of A.M.Room’s movies (and of Soviet cinema of the 30–50s in general) was accused of formalism and banned from distribution.
