The film is inspired by real events. Red Army officer Nikolai Kiselyov receives an order to withdraw over two hundred Jews from the occupied Belarusian lands behind the front line - old people, women and children, who miraculously escaped the inevitable brutal reprisal. These emaciated, tormented by hunger and fear people, who have lost their relatives and almost lost their minds from the horror they experienced, will have to walk hundreds of kilometers along the forest paths in order to regain hope for salvation and faith in the future.
