The film is based on real events that took place in the 50s of the last century. This is the story of a Muscovite Zinaida Ouvarova, who in 1952 follows her lover Alexei Levitski, unjustly sentenced to 10 years, in exile in the Irkutsk region. She wants the case to be retried and the man released. In Irkutsk, Zinaida gets a job at the regional court, first as a cleaner, then as a secretary, and imperceptibly slips false documents on the release of convicts, including Levitsky, to the president of the court. But all does not go as planned by Zinaida. Some of those released are unhappy with his actions. The relatives who helped Zinaida are threatened. As a result, the main character ultimately manages to free Levitsky, but at the cost of his own freedom.
