Film-story based on the prose work of the same title by
Yulian Semenov.
The veteran of polar aviation Strumilin, one of those who
in the 30s laid out the first air routes in the Arctic region,
and the young pilot Bogachev are sent to evacuate some
scientists who are stranded on a detached ice floe. On the
way Strumilin becomes unwell: the heart. Bogachev masterly
lands the plane on the ice floe, but he cannot take everybody.
Strumilin surrenders his place to a member of the expedition
and is certain that his friend will soon return...
