The film is based on Vladimir Voynovich’s autobiographical story “The Smell of Chocolate” written in 1997.
The plot of the film differs in many ways from Voinovich’s short novella. The film uses a frame composition: in the present day, the main character of the film comes to Poland and recalls something that happened to him in this place half a century ago.
The action takes place in 1953 in Poland. A Soviet soldier happens to meet a Polish girl. He falls in love with her, and the feeling seems to be mutual, but she constantly puts off meeting him, repeating: “Just not right now”.
The action takes place in 1953. The film tells the story of a love affair between a Polish girl and a Russian soldier.
