Plot synopsis
Shortly after the outbreak of WWII, during a tour of forty Soviet cities, the American conductor John Meredith (Taylor) meets the Soviet pianist Nadia Stepanova (Peters). Nadia stuns the conductor with her beauty, with her musical talent, but also with the ability to drive a tank and fire a machine gun. After a magnificent folkloric wedding the young couple visits Nadia's home village, Chaikovskoe, and Nadia's father - the collective farmer Stepanov (Michael Chekhov). In the village the girl organizes the dispatch of the harvest to the front. Meredith, in amazement, wants to remain in the USSR, but following partisan advice he returns to the US with Nadia, to tell Americans about the heroism of the Soviet people.
