Singers, dancers and musicians from the large wine-growing kolkhoz "New Life" arrive in Kishinev to take part in a competition for amateur rural artists. Among them are Liana, one of the best group leaders of the artel, her friend Paraskitsa, Andrei, Liana's fiancé, accompanied by his friends Grisha and Alyosha.
At the competition, the youth ensemble is a huge success. The jury awards the performers diplomas of honor. However, at the insistence of the chairman of the collective farm, Andrei and his comrades do not receive diplomas because they have not lived up to expectations in their work on the collective farm. Hurt by the fact that their art has not been appreciated at its true value, the young people, under the bad influence of the "free" musician Gitsa, do not go to the collective farm for several days or to the ensemble's rehearsals. It is only thanks to the friendly influence of the collective farmers and the two friends Liana and Paraskitsa that the young people correct themselves and become not only virtuoso musicians, but also good collective farm workers.
