A certain young man, named Roger, is suspected of cheating at cards. A man of the world, comes to his rescue, establishes his innocence in the eyes of the visitors of the salon and immediately after offers him a large sum of money. In fact, this man of the world is the well-known Parisian adventurer, Vencon, an elusive criminal, constantly slipping through the fingers of justice and reappearing under other names. He gives Roger advice so that he can become the "King of Paris"
With the help of the famous Duke Diernstein, and his connections, thanks also to his cheating at cards, Roger indeed becomes the "King of Paris". But the pure son of the Duke, renouncing his father's inheritance, denounces Roger who will end up being killed in a duel.
