The gendarmes arrest Vyacheslav, a student of free-thinking. His friend Kirill gives his word of honour that he will free Vyacheslav from the guards' casemates, but to do this he will have to create a fighting squad and engage in a deadly battle with the Black Hundreds - ruthless supporters of the monarchy.
