Plot synopsis
Valera Romeev is a young painter who left his small mining town in eastern Ukraine to seek happiness in Moscow. After having abandoned his studies in an institute of Fine Arts, he lives on the Arbat making portraits for passers-by. Hoping to find help from his older brother Vadim, a successful businessman with whom connection has long been lost, he seeks him out. But Vadim, jealous of her independence, refuses to help her. Valera's chance meeting with a school friend will radically change the lives of the Romeev brothers...
