24th International Documentary Film Festival "Flahertiana" Perm (Russia), 20 - 27 September 2024

The Flahertiana Festival, named after the American director Robert Flaherty, has presented the aesthetic principles that this director first applied in the film "Northern Nanook". These are films in which "a person lives on the screen a part of his life, formulated by the director according to the laws of dramaturgy". These are mainly films - portraits of contemporaries. This aesthetic platform is guided by the selection committee, which today includes film critics Victoria Belopolskaya, Marina Drozdova, directors Boris Karadzhev and Pavel Pechenkin. The first festival took place in 1995 and until 2006 it was held every two years, according to the formula of a theoretical symposium rather than a competition. In 2006, the festival finally became an annual international documentary film festival with an international jury.

Animated films without words

This is a non-exhaustive list of Russian and Soviet animated films without words. We have excluded films from the silent film period which, although wordless, generally contain Russian-language intertitles.

Russian or Soviet cinema on Telegram

Our page provides a link to the main Telegram channels relating to Russian or Soviet cinema. To view the content of one of these channels, simply click on the corresponding link. You do not need to have downloaded the application. However, it is free to download and will allow you to find other channels that may be of interest to you. The Telegram application is widely used by Russians. Our association opened a channel on Telegram in January 2024. The aim is usually to provide information on current events concerning Russian or Soviet cinema, or sometimes to talk about an interesting aspect of this cinema. Each message is essentially made up of an image accompanied by brief comments and links providing further information. Sometimes the image is replaced by a video. You can consult Telegram's public channels, like ours, by going to https://web.telegram.org/a/. To find us, just search for "Russian cinema". Note, however, that our exact title is: "Cinéma russe / Российское кино / Russian cinema". If you want to view channels written in Russian and would like the message read to be translated into French, or any other language, press the three horizontal dashes at the top left, then "Settings" then "language" and finally "press translate button". To obtain a translation of any message, point to the message and right-click on "Translate".
