Plot synopsis
To satisfy his ambitions, an elderly pawnbroker marries a young, sweet girl. It's an agreed marriage, without love or joy. A banal situation, but between the spouses breaks out a real psychological war which destroys them and leads to drama. The stranger comes to lock up his wife in a cage but eventually becomes his prisoner himself. This film, an ordinary chronicle of conjugal tyranny, questions love itself: does it exist or is it just calculation, driven solely by personal interests? Is it not alienation and suffocation of the spouse? Isn't it contempt for the other?
