Film on the life and work of the famous poet Evgueni Domatovski (1915 – 1994), father of the director.
The film uses many archival images, many of which were taken by the great Russian photographer Yevgeny Khaldei, who was also filmed.
The film shows contemporary events in the poet's life, such as the inauguration of the Moscow metro, the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940 and the Second World War in which the poet participated from 1942 until the Arrival of Soviet troops in Berlin. The poet described this war in the many letters he wrote from the front to his mother and daughter and which are reproduced in a file below.
In the film you can hear many songs whose lyrics were written by the poet, in particular the one that gives the film its title "B dalekiy kray..."
