To date, there is no official confirmation that men play chess better than women, but there are currently 2,120 grandmasters in the world, of which only 364 are female. Grandmasters and coaches, along with scientists and experts, are trying to figure out whether gender affects success in chess, what stereotypes male and female grandmasters face, why prize funds are higher in the male world of chess, and what it is like to play in a traditionally male sport.
