Plot synopsis
Story of a community of Armenians, refugees from the USSR during the Baku pogroms, living in a deep American province. Life in Baku, Armenian blood, Soviet mentality, and American emigration mixed together in incredible tragicomic proportions. All of them went through the "events" - as they call the Nagorno-Karabakh war (the word itself is taboo). All were forced to flee "in pajamas". The Armenian cemetery in Baku has been paved. They were expelled from the city in 1988. For two years, they roamed the country. They were not allowed to leave the Union ... The Union collapsed. America accepted them. They have lived in the USA for 30 years, everything is fine, they have adapted to their new life (materially). But their thoughts remained in the USSR. “I can only go back to the USSR,” says the film's hero, Eric. Every year in October they make khash, it is a sacred tradition and terrible swill, women are not allowed to drink khash. This is how they live. People whose language is Russian, their worldview is Soviet, and their children are American.
