Plot synopsis
The action takes place during the NEP period. In a distant province live two friends, the ingenious Sasha Butov and the poet, in the style of Yesenin, Gerasim Oguzkin. Both dream of Moscow and eventually arrive there. There the two friends part ways. Butov works and studies, Oguzkin, who has become the poet Grania Immortel, leads a bohemian life. After an unsuccessful attempt to seduce a young girl, who happened to be in love with Sasha, Grania tries to commit suicide. Fortunately, his generous friend comes to his aid at the right time.
