Dmitri Pevtsov est né à Moscou. En 1985 il a terminé ses études à la faculté des arts dramatiques de RATI (ancien GITIS, L’Institut d’ Art du Théâtre de Moscou). Il a passé son service militaire dans le Théâtre de l’Armée Soviétique (Театр Советской Армии), puis il a travaillé au Théâtre sur la Taganka (Театр на Таганке). Depuis 1991 il est membre de la troupe du Théâtre Lenkom (Театр имени Ленинского Комсомола). Parallèlement il participe aux spectacles du Théâtre de la Lune (Tеатр Луны). Encore étudiant, Pevtsov était figurant sur les tournages. Son premier rôle au cinéma fut dans le film de Tatiana Lioznova (Татьяна Лиознова) : La fin du monde suivie par un symposium.
Dmitri Pevtsov est devenu connu grâce à son rôle dans un des premiers films d’action russe Surnommé « l’Animal », puis au son rôle dans le film de Gleb Panfilov La Mère. Sur le tournage du film La promenade sur l’échafaud il a rencontré sa femme, l’actrice Olga Drozdova (Ольга Дроздова). Pevtsov joue beaucoup dans les séries TV, dont L’arrêt sur demande – un grand succès populaire en Russie. Depuis un certain temps il a aussi découvert sa passion pour le chant, il chante sur scène et fait des enregistrements. Grand, sportif, il participe au rallyes d’automobiles sur circuit, dans le groupe "Turing-Lait", membre de l'équipe RUS-LAN.
