Plot synopsis
Lilja, a naïve and solitary young lady of 35 years old, lives in a provincial town in Russia. She lives with her elderly father, and works in a poultry abattoir. In spite of her disarming charm, she has no man in her life. There is no shortage of attempts at a relationship, but they never lead to anything. One day, a famous pianist gives a concert in the town. Lilja immediately falls for his charms. She fully intends to move heaven and earth to seduce him. But, of course, things don’t go quite as she hopes… With her almost documentary approach, the director manages to make a number of situations and characters very plausible, and particularly the lead role.
