Mikhaïl Kalatozichvili est né le 19 mai 1959. Il est le petit fils du cinéaste Mikhaïl Kalatozov, auteur de Quand passent les cigognes.
En 1981, il termine ses études au VGIK (Institut national du cinéma), dans la chaire de E. Dzigan. Il a d'abord travaillé au studio Grouzia-Film de Tbilissi. Depuis 1996, il est réalisateur au studio Lenfilm.

Родился 19 мая 1959 г. в Тбилиси.
В 1981 г. окончил режиссерский факультет ВГИКа (мастерская Е. Дзигана).
Работал на к/с "Грузия-фильм", с 1996 г. — режиссер-постановщик к/с "Ленфильм".
Внук знаменитого кинорежиссёра Михаила Калатозова.
