Plot synopsis
Sergei Prokofiev is a musical genius and one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. The masterpiece of Sergey Sergeevich Prokofiev – the ballet "Romeo and Juliet" – almost never appeared publicly. This work – as well as the composer himself - has a difficult fate.
Prokofiev fled Russia shortly after the Bolshevik revolution and spent the next 18 years trying to build a successful career in North America and Europe. Then he makes a decision which stunned the whole world: in 1936, at the height of Stalin's purges, he returns to the Soviet Union... The authors explore the life and work of Sergei Prokofiev, using exposing and often harrowing testimony from the composer's diary.
