Plot synopsis
The war is going on. Alyosha Skvortsov, a young soldier who performed a heroic deed in the last battle goes to his mother for two-day vacation. He helps everybody on his way home: a one-legged invalid to meet his wife, a girl Shura - to get to her auntie, and even the last night of his vacation Alyosha spends saving the children from the bombardment. While helping everybody Alyosha does not manage to do much for himself. He fails to affirm his love to Shura, just passingly sees his mother. And again he goes to the front where Alyosha Skvortsov falls in battle.
