To avenge innocent people coldly executed, the young Vassyl kills a German officer. Wounded, he is transported by his friend to a nearby village. The Germans warn the population that they will wait until morning for the assassin to be delivered to them. Tormented by his conscience, Vassyl decides to surrender. But this sacrifice will prove useless. All the villagers will be shot mercilessly.
