Nowadays, Mikhail Leonidovich Lozinski’s name is
little-known to public at large. The essence of his
profession presupposes some anonymity, “transparency”
though. However, M. Lozinski is a unique
phenomenon in the literature of the 20th century.
Gumilev judged Lozinski to be a “translator higher
than Zhukovski”. Anna Akhmatova devoted six of
her poems to Lozinski and called him “incomparable
poet-translator”. Although initially Lozinski did not
cast in his lot with translations.
