Plot synopsis
This is a short story about a petty officer living under the pressure of a totalitarian regime. The protagonist – comrade Bashmakov – is sealing papers with a black band covering his eyes. Officials are not allowed to see the content of the public documents they seal. But Bashmakov possess abilities that distinguish him from the rest. Will he win his quest for becoming the Chief?
